NCE-N hails directive on school fee
Kathmandu, March 14
National Campaign for Education-Nepal has welcomed the recently introduced guideline related to fixation of tuition fee of institutional schools and demanded its immediate implementation.
Issuing a press statement, NCE-Nepal said the directive would help ensure education as the fundamental right of every citizen.
“Growing commercialisation of education has deprived students of quality education,” it said, adding, “Education should not be treated as a commodity and the government should regulate such unhealthy practices.”
It further claimed that many institutional schools were fleecing parents and not paying adequate attention towards mitigating the risks of possible disasters. “We hope the directive will help schools determine fee structure in a scientific way,” it said.
NCE-Nepal also expressed confidence that implementation of the directive would help ensure child-friendly physical infrastructure in schools.
The directive has set a ceiling for excess fee. Likewise, it has also said that schools must seek approval of two-thirds of parents while fixing tuition fee.
