NC's Rai registers candidacy for President
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Laxmi Rai has filed her candidacy for upcoming presidential elections on March 13.
Lawmakers Chitralekha Yadav, Man Bahadur BK, Parbata DC Chaudhary, Debendra Raj Kandel and Surendra Raj Pandey proposed her candidacy, which was seconded by lawmakers Mekhlal Shrestha, Shiva Chandra Chaudhary, Sarita Prasain, Sujata Pariyar and Radha Ghale.
General Secretary Shashanka Koirala and leader Minendra Rijal were present during the filing of her nomination on behalf of the NC.
Speaking to media personnel after filing her candidacy at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor, Rai said that her candidacy was for the development and prosperity of the country.
Rai, daughter of martyr Dewan Singh Rai, is a former central committee member of the party and a former lawmaker.
The Nepali Congress Central Working Committee meeting today had decided to field her for the post.
Rai will vie with incumbent President Bidya Devi Bhandari for the post of President.
