Amid debates on the quality of public education, Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Devendra Poudel spoke of the need to forge common understanding to bring about reforms in public schools.
Minister Poudel said this while inaugurating the newly-constructed school building of Gyanodaya Secondary School here today in the backdrop of the decade-long campaign launched by the government to reform public schools.
"We have already released the ten-year public school reform plan. Physical infrastructure of 12,000 schools have been built. We will work to complete the construction of physical infrastructure in all the schools during the next three years," he added. Likewise, Minister Poudel said the Ministry of Education had been working to ensure perks and facilities for schoolteachers equal to that of civil servants.
"Earning by studying programme is ongoing in 140 schools and 100 more schools will be selected this year," he said, adding that the skills would be linked to employment.
Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol and Chairman of National Examinations Board Mahashram Sharma also expressed their views on quality enhancement of public schools.
The newly-constructed building comprising 35 rooms was readied with an investment of Rs 35 million.
