Lawyers want 50 pc share in justice appointment

KATHMANDU: Office bearers of Nepal Bar Association called on Chief Justice Sushila Karki on Monday and demanded 50 per cent representation of the Bar in the justice appointment.

In the meeting held at the Office of the Chief Justice, NBA President Sher Bahadur KC-led delegation set forth various demands including at least 50 per cent reservation for the Bar, reinstatement of former 28 temporary judges of the then Appellate Courts and immediate awarding of the title of senior advocate.

On the occasion, Chief Justice Karki said she was positive towards the demands and would table the same before the Judicial Council, according to NBA Vice-President Usha Malla.

Meanwhile, the Judicial Council held a meeting today to discuss the appointment of justices.

Present in the meeting were Chief Justice and Council Chairperson Sushila Karki, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ajaya Shankar Nayak, Supreme Court Senior Justice Baidyanath Upadhyaya and Council Member Ram Prasad Sitaula.
