KATHMANDU, JUNE 3

Nepal has been elected Chair of the First Committee (Disarmament and International Security) of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The election is regarded as a significant diplomatic achievement for Nepal and an international recognition of the country's longstanding commitment to multilateralism, international peace and security, and global disarmament efforts spanning more than seven decades.

Following the election, Nepal's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lok Bahadur Thapa, expressed gratitude to UN member states for their trust and support.

According to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Thapa pledged to discharge his responsibilities with impartiality, transparency, and inclusiveness.

The First Committee plays a key role in deliberations and decision-making on issues related to disarmament, international security, and global peace.
