KATHMANDU, MARCH 12
Nepal's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ram Prasad Subedi, has been unanimously elected Chairperson of the Committee on Trade and Environment (CTE) of the World Trade Organization.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nepal, Subedi was elected for a one-year term during the WTO General Council meeting held in Geneva on March 11, 2026.
The Committee on Trade and Environment serves as a standing forum within the WTO where member states discuss the relationship between trade policies and environmental protection, including climate-related trade measures and ways to promote environmentally sustainable trade.
The ministry said Nepal's leadership of the committee comes at a significant time as the country prepares to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status and is working closely with WTO members to further integrate its trade into global markets.
