Nepal-India water meet begins in New Delhi today

Kathmandu, March 11:

A two-day secretary-level meeting of Nepal-India Joint Committee on Water Resources will begin in New Delhi from tomorrow, the Ministry of Water Resources said here today.

A Nepali delegation led by Water Resources secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala left for the Indian capital today. Secretary of Central Water Resources Ministry of India Umesh Narayan Panjiyar will lead the Indian delegation, a press statement issued by the ministry said.

This is the fourth meeting of the committee. The Nepali delegation includes representatives of Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

The delgation has project chiefs of Pancheswor Multi-Purpose Project and Saptakoshi Multi-purpose Project as observers.

The meeting will deliberate on wide range of issues — including the ways to extend and promote mutual support on tapping water resources potentials, flood and inundation control, Pancheswor project, Saptakoshi high dam, and electricity supply and building transmission lines, among others.
