NMC rejects KU’s request for additional MBBS seats

Kathmandu, November 25

Nepal Medical Council has decided not to allocate additional MBBS seats to Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College and Birat Medical College affiliated to Kathmandu University.

NMC had allocated 90 MMBS seats to Nobel Medical College and 65 seats to Birat Medical College. Kathmandu University academic council had sent a letter, urging NMC to review its decision regarding the allocation of seats to these two colleges. The university had asked the council to allocate 10 more seats to each college.

“We have provided maximum number of MBBS seats to both the colleges. The decision was taken after a specialised team from NMC made a field inspection of the colleges.  We have, therefore, decided not to provide additional seats to these colleges,” said Dr Dharma Kanta Baskota, chairman, NMC.

The council has also urged the university to inform its academic council as students and parents have been complaining about absence of teachers during their regular classes.
