Nepal observes Shree Panchami

KATHMANDU: The Saraswati puja, known as Basanta Panchami a festival devoted to Saraswati , goddess of wisdom , music and fine arts is being observed on Wednesday throughout the country.

On the occasion the teaching community in particular are observing the occasion with different programmes. Devotees rise early in the morning, bathe and worship Saraswati. In keeping with the tradition of this festival children are taught to write their first words.

On the day of Saraswati puja devotees observe a grand mela at Saraswatithan of Swayambu, Nil Saraswati of Lazimpat, Saraswari Kunda of Lele, Lalitpur. The day is also auspicious for those who wish to get married.

Vasant Panchami is a Hindu festival celebrated annually on January 20.

Meanwhile, President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, CA spokesperson Subash Chandra Nembang and other high level officials observed Basanta Shrawan at Hanuman Dhoka, Kathmandu.
