KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 23

In a bid to counter security threats arising from the misuse of digital technology, the Nepal Police has established an "AI and Advanced Analytics Cell," commonly referred to as the AI Cell, to strengthen its technological capabilities in the IT sector.

The Nepal Police stated that the AI Cell has been set up to monitor disinformation circulating on social media platforms and to oversee digital content through systematic surveillance.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal inaugurated the AI Cell at the Nepal Police Headquarters on Monday and urged police officials to regulate the spread of fake news, particularly concerning election-related matters, and to strictly enforce the election code of conduct.

Minister Aryal expressed confidence that the AI Cell would play a pivotal role in curbing untoward activities perpetrated through social media platforms.

According to the Nepal Police, the AI Cell will contribute to risk mitigation and enhance overall security management by technically empowering the institution.

It has also been stated that data will be collected from CCTV cameras installed in sensitive and high-risk areas, and emerging trends will be analyzed accordingly to support proactive security measures.
