Nepal Students Union closed door session to begin today
KATHMANDU: Closed door session of the Nepal Students Union general convention, stalled since Monday owing to disputes over selection of convention representatives, is expected to begin today.
A panel formed by the student union's mother party, Nepali Congress, ended the disputes over names from 11 districts on Tuesday, according to NC CWC member and member of the panel Pradeep Paudel.
The panel's decision had addressed concerns of all sides, Paudel informed.
It has been learned that the panel added some names incorporating cadres of all NSU factions while avoiding nomination of the district presidents.
Ganesh Sapkota and Ratnahari Dhungel, who had been staging a fast-unto-death demanding the national convention in accordance to the statute, are expected to end the fast today.
Elections for the new leadership are likely on Thursday.
The convention, which had begun on Sunday, was scheduled to conclude on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the party's panel led by NC CWC member Prakash Sharan Mahat is organising a press conference in Kathmandu at 5 pm today to inform about the latest developments.
