Italian tourist's murder suspect held after 20.5 years
KATHMANDU: Nepal Police on Sunday said it has arrested a man who allegedly was involved in the murder of an Italian national in Thamel two decades ago.
The suspect has been identified as Tasi Gurung of Manang, who acquired Nepali citizenship from Gorkha with the name Sandup Ghale. Eight other suspects are still at large, according to police.
Gurung had fled to the US after the fatal attack on David Carraro in October 1995, according to Nepal Police's Central Investigation Bureau.
Gurung and his friends had hit him with sticks and stabbed the 27-year-old Italian tourist to death at Reggae Pub in Thamel, following a dispute. Cararro had lost his life when he tried to resist eve teasing on two of his lady friends at the tourist hub.
It has been learned that Gurung had acquired Green Card for permanent residency in the United States and had returned to Nepal three years ago.
Gurung was recently nabbed from Kathmandu and paraded by the CIB today.
