Nepal Telecom, KMC staffers begin strike

Kathmandu, April 11:

Nepal Telecom staffers today halted works in their respective offices at the call of the Central Joint Struggle Committee of the Telecom to protest the disruption in mobile phone services by the government and to express solidarity with the ongoing movement for restoration of democracy.

The agitation began soon after the offices opened in the morning. The employees did not enter the offices throughout the day after curfew began at 12:00 in the noon. They shouted anti-monarchy slogans and demanded restoration of democracy.

President of the Telecom Employees’ Association of Nepal Tanka Lal Shrestha said the protest programmes would continue unless democracy was restored and mobile phone services were resumed. “This is also to safeguard the rights of trade unions,” he added.

Similarly, the KMC committee of the Nepal Municipality Employees’ Association today stalled all works of the KMC to express solidarity with the movement for democracy.
