NC against allowing naturalised citizens to become president
DHANGADI: Nepali Congress General Secretary Dr Shashank Koirala said his party did not support the policy of allowing naturalised citizens to take up the mantle of country's president.
At a press conference organised by Nepal Press Union, Kailali here today, Dr Koirala referred to the constitutional provisions barring naturalised citizens to become prime minister in India and president in the United States of America. Further, he spoke against stirring up more problems by raising the issue of religion during such difficult political situation. "The option should be given to the people to decide once the political situation normalises," he added.
Responding to a journalist's query, the NC General Secretary argued that the constitution cannot be implemented without amending it and stressed the need for all the parties to unite for the same.
He shared further that Congress would want to reach a conclusion on the impeachment motion registered against suspended chief of the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) based on facts.
