Nepali Congress central committee meeting today

KATHMANDU: Central Committee meeting of the main opposition party Nepali Congress is taking place this afternoon.

The meeting has been scheduled for 1:00 pm at the party's central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

NC leaders are coming together in the meeting to figure out their step forward in connection to the Prime Minister's shocking move of parliament dissolution.

On Sunday, in a sudden but not entirely unexpected move, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli took the decision to dissolve the House of Representatives. The PM's recommendation was then swiftly approved by the President, while also announcing fresh mid-term elections to be held in two rounds in April-May in 2020.

This has created confusion and dilemma for other political parties as well as the general public at a time when the pandemic has adversely affected the country's economy and human resources.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the two warring factions of ruling Nepal Communist Party independently called central committee meetings, following which the party suffered a split. The rival factions led by two chairpersons -- PM Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal -- claimed their faction to be the authentic NCP in their separate meetings.
