KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 02
A team led by Advocate Bishnu Bhusal has successfully scaled Mount Ramdung demanding 'Environmental justice' in line with the upcoming COP-26.
Upon standing atop the mountain situated at an elevation of 5,925 in Dolakha district, Bhusal hoisted the flag of Nepal and other organisations on October 30.
Nepal is at high risk of climate change and has been facing problems related to it. "If the world leaders attending the 'COP-26' conference turn their backs at our voice then we would be compelled to take the issue to International Lawyers Association to resolve the same," team leader Bhusal warned.
Senior advocate Prakash Mani Sharma said, "Due to climate change many glaciers, mountains, lakes are at risk of triggering a disaster at any time putting many lives, livelihood and property at massive risk."
Sharma further said that the main motive of the campaign was to draw the world leaders' attention towards the impact of climate change that has affected our invaluable ecosystem and local communities.
An interaction program related to environmental justice was held at Charikot, the district headquarters, upon their arrival after successfully scaling the mountain.
On the occasion, the district judge, Chief District Officer, acclaimed mountaineer Pemba Dorje Sherpa, media persons, activist among others were also present.
The team has also announced that it would scale Mt Everest during the upcoming spring season.
