Nepali street artists donate works for peace
KATHMANDU: Two Nepali street artists have joined others around the world by donating works in support of peace building charity, International Alert and its #ART4PEACE campaign.
Their works focused on showcasing unity and hope for peace in Nepal after the recent earthquake, and nearly 10 years after the end of the civil war.
A press statement issued here today said that art buyers worldwide have a chance to bid on the pieces in an online auction starting today, until October 1, at www.talkingpeacefestival.org/art4peace. Aditya Aryal, aka Sadhu X, described by the The New York Times as Nepal’s ‘most influential street artist’, commented on his contribution, which is titled Hope, “The chaotic collage background is a Nepali political poster that I collected from the street. Political instability in our country has created chaos and fear among people, and the recent earthquake has not helped, but made the situation worse. But this artwork I have created is about not losing hope in this harsh time and uniting to rise up and find peace of mind.”
Similarly, Kathmandu-based street artist Shraddha Shrestha, aka Deadline, commented on her piece, titled And we were one, a response to the recent earthquake in Nepal, “When the earthquake struck on April 25, 2015, apart from all the catastrophic damage and loss, we experienced a different Nepal, we experienced true unity...”
