Nepali student as guest researcher in US

KATHMADNU, August 10

Kiran Adhikari, a 26-year old physics student studying Bachelors’ Degree in one of the colleges in Kathmandu has started doing research with a team of international scientists in the United States.

He was recently invited by the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and US Government Department of Energy as a guest researcher at the 43rd SLAC Summer Institute.

According to the invitation letter sent by Thomas Rizzo, SLAC programme director, the institute began from on Monday at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, CA, USA which will end on October 21, 2015.

During the SLAC Summer Institute, renowned researchers will study a certain topic and this year’s research topic is ‘The Universe of Neutrinos’, said Adhikari.

He said that it was the biggest opportunity for him and the entire country to work with international scientists on their invitation.

Adhikari said that he has already been to various countries to participate in workshops and conduct research activities in the past.

He said he had been to Germany to attend the International Astronomical Youth Camp (IAYC) organised by International Workshop for Astronomy in Germany in 2013.

He was one of the 60 participants selected from across the globe. He had also received a scholarship,p which is given to outstanding participants at the IAYC.

He went to Switzerland in 2014 to work in the Centre for European Nuclear, Swiss government research centre.
