KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 25
For the last three decades Nepathya, Nepal's famous rock-folk band, entertained not only music enthusiasts across the globe but also carried out social campaigns.
At a time when Nepal was trapped in armed conflict, Nepathya initiated peace campaigns by means of the slogan 'Sundar Santa Nepal' to heal the wounds of conflict-victims through music and 'Shanti ko lagi siksha', for schools in conflict free zones.
In the coming days, Nepathya has made it its aim to be the voice for 'Campaign for Humanity' and has thus forged alliance with a pioneer non-profit organization, Manavsewa Ashram.
It an organization dedicated to serve homeless people and persons with mental heath related issues, with 23 branches in 19 districts and extended services across 77 districts.
"We were actually touched by the organisation's dedication and objectives as it works to relocate homeless people within three years, said Band's lead singer and social activist Amrit Gurung.
"I always wished the state would rescue and rehabilitate these people." When I heard about an organization taking care of these people, I really felt relieved and satisfied. Coincidently, we are collaborating with the same organization for the cause, Gurung elaborated our effort will be to create a nation full of humanity.
"We will not only be their voice, but also support them with funds raised through concerts," Gurung added.
We are determined on our common agenda to ensure that no Nepali citizen will be seen stranded in streets or on river banks, said Ramji Adhikari founding chairperson of Manavsewa Ashram.
With this campaign, Nepathya's songs will be known as 'Music for Humanity," Amrit Gurung said.
