New budget will be media-friendly, says Minister Rai

Kathmandu, May 17

Minister for Information and Communications Sherdhan Rai today said the government’s upcoming budget would be media-friendly.

Inaugurating the National Assembly of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities Journalists here today, Minister Rai said the upcoming budget would incorporate various issues of the media sector. He said the ministry was also drafting new media policy to regulate and manage the media sector.

General Secretary of Federation of Nepali Journalists Ujir Magar said the FNJ was working to address the concerns of working journalists.

Representatives from more than 46 districts participated in the national assembly, which issued a 10-point Inclusive Media Declaration-2016.

The declaration has demanded that the state to address the demands of the agitating parties immediately. It has also called on the FNJ to make its statute more inclusive.

Besides, it also demanded that Satya Narayan Bahadur Shrestha be declared as FNJ’s founder president as there were ample evidences that he was the founder chairman of the then Nepal Journalist Association.
