New chief secy vows to execute service in compliance with statute
KATHMANDU: Newly-appointed Chief Secretary of the Government Lok Darshan Regmi said that the attention would be focused on making the civil service committed to Constitution implementation as per its letter and spirit.
"My major work and responsibility is to facilitate in the implementation of the government's policies and decisions. I will remain dedicated to this work and this is my priority," he said while taking charge of his office today.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM), Singha Durbar on Monday appointed Regmi to the top bureaucratic position of the country. Now, he serves as the 24th chief secretary of the government. He was promoted to secretary four years ago in 2013. Incumbent Chief Secretary Rajendra Kishor Chhetri retired on Tuesday due to age-limit. Regmi was the Home Secretary before his appointment as the Chief Secretary.
The Chief Secretary Regmi signed on and endorsed papers related to constituting a study committee for making the service at the OPMCM more organised and efficient, and also for its organisational review, while assuming office.
The Secretary at the OPMCM looking after governance reform is the coordinator of the committee. The committee has been given two months to prepare a report in two months from the date it starts its works.
The Chief Secretary was welcomed by the secretaries at the OPMCM and special class officers of various ministries.
