Kathmandu, February 8

Former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai today said his New Force would campaign for directly-elected executive presidential system in Nepal.

Addressing a press meet organised after a two-day meeting of the Interim Central Council of the new political force, Bhattarai said only a stable political system can ensure a developed and prosperous Nepal.

Bhattarai said he could not deliver when he was the prime minister and finance minister earlier due to political instability but has left some footprints and only a directly-elected executive presidential system with at least five years of stable tenure could ensure development in the country.

He claimed that the ICC would come up with an upgraded ideology based on existing ones that can cater the needs of a new era.

The two-day ICC meeting nominated New Force coordinators for the seven provinces. Rajendra Kirati has been nominated the coordinator for Province-1, Ram Chandra Jha for Province-2; Balawati Sharma for Province-3; Devendra Parajuli for Province-4; Bamdev Kshetri for Province-5; Bhakta Bahadur Shah for Province-6 and Lila Devi Bhandari for Province-7.

Other coordinators include Kumar Poudel for associated organisations, Ram Kumar Sharma for National Front and Prabin Mishra would look after professional organisations.

The new force has also formed several departments and assigned leaders to look after them.

However, the Interim Central Council meeting failed to select the heads of some departments, including those that would look after the Parliament, government and state coordination, federal affairs, and Dalits and minorities.
