Kathmandu, April 2:

In a bid to curb rising crime in the Valley, the Home Ministry is set to mobilise three security organs in a coordinated manner as part of the new security strategy in the Valley.

The ministry is learnt to have completed preparations for the plan and was ready to implement the new strategy. After the plan comes into effect, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department would be mobilised simultaneously to prevent criminal activities in the capital.

The move comes after the conclusion that crime control was ineffective due to the lack of coordination among the three security wings. According to advisor to the Home Ministry Dr Yubaraj Sangraula , the plan was ready for implementation and final round of talks on the strategy among the chiefs of three wings and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam had given a go ahead to the plan. He said the city denizens will feel a sense of security once the plan comes into effect.

As per the new strategy, a Crime Intelligence Bureau will be formed and it will be led by an SSP. Security personnel would be mobilised in coordinated manner in all three districts of the Valley. However, security expert Dr Chuda Bahadur Shrestha expressed doubts over the implementation of the plan. “The Home Minster keeps talking about such plans time and again but the plans are never implemented.”

He added that there were challenges to implement the strategy as the political parties had been protecting the criminals. Likewise, high population density is another challenge faced by the security bodies. On assuming the office, the Home Minister had said that he would resign from his post if he couldn’t prevent criminal activities in the capital within six months.

According to the ministry, they had identified the criminals in the capital and the first priority of the security agencies was to detain them and bring them to book. Security personnel who are involved in aiding the criminals would also be brought to book.
