KATHMANDU, APRIL 16

The Department of Immigration has clarified that there is no provision or policy to impose employment restrictions on Nepali citizens traveling to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) under visit visas.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the department said its attention had been drawn to news reports and social media posts claiming that passports of some Nepali travelers to the UAE were stamped with remarks such as "Employment is strictly prohibited. Visit till 10/6/2026."

The department stated that such practices do not fall under any official policy or decision and emphasized that no immigration officer is authorized to impose conditions beyond existing legal provisions while granting departure clearance.

Acknowledging that foreign employment has increasingly become a necessity for many Nepalis, the department said it has been making efforts to control fraud and exploitation taking place at different stages of foreign travel.

As per a government decision dated Kartik 13, 2082 BS, the department noted that Nepali citizens traveling abroad on visit visas are allowed to depart with a passport valid for at least six months, a return air ticket, and a valid visa of the destination country, along with self-declaration. The measure aims to simplify and systematize the departure process.

The department further stated that it has been working to modernize immigration systems and make arrival and departure procedures more efficient, while strengthening national security.

It also warned that any staff found involved in unauthorized or illegal practices will face departmental action, adding that internal investigations into such activities have been initiated.
