NICWU celebrates foundation day

Nepal Independent Carpet Workers’ Union (NICWU) organised various competitive programmes to mark its 13th foundation day here on Saturday.

The Union organised child painting, dancing and poem reciting competitions on the occasion. Norkey Sherpa of Shigachey Carpets won the first prize in the painting while Dipendra Tamang of Samling Carpet and Manoj Magar of Ranta Carpet stood second and third respectively. Altogether 23 paintings were displayed for the competition.

In dancing competition, Trisala Moktan of Bhadgaon Woollens, Durga Karki and Pramila Magar of Urma Carpet and Sunita Tamang of Samling Carpet were awarded first, second and third prizes respectively. A total of 19 children competed in the dance competition.

Raju Shrestha of Bhadgaon Woollens stood first in poetry competition. Kamala Subba and Kamala Rai of Himkar Carpets got second and third prizes out of 26 competitors.

President of the General Federation of Nepali Trade Unions (GEFONT) Mukunda Neupane gave away prizes and trophies to the winners of the competitions. He also felicitated the best depositors Laki Sherpa and Dolma Sherpa of Himkar Carpets of saving cooperative run by NICWU.
