Nitish Kumar says Madhes is Nepal's own affair

KATHMANDU: Chief Minister of Bihar state of India, Nitish Kumar, said the Madhes issue was an internal affair of Nepal and Nepali leaders were capable of solving it.

Speaking at an interaction with journalists at the Reporters Club in the Capital today, the chief executive of Bihar, which shares border with Madhes of Nepal, said India needed not intervene into the issue.

"Whatever problems Nepal has been facing have to be solved by Nepalis. India should not be dragged into Nepal's internal affairs."

"Leaders here are capable of addressing problems of Pahadis, Madhesis and Janajatis," he said, "We just want progress and harmony in Nepal."

The Janata Dal United leader maintained that he had suggested to Madhesi leaders to seek solution to their problems within Nepal.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister maintained that India did not have any objection to the new Constitution of Nepal.

The leader added that Indians were connected with Nepalis emotionally and they wanted to see development in Nepal.

Nitish Kumar is in Kathmandu to attend the 13th national general convention of Nepali Congress, beginning in Kathmandu today.

On Wednesday, he had held meetings with President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli among others.
