KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that there is no question of holding a referendum on matters of national integrity.

Speaking at an event organised to mark National Security Council's anniversary today at Singha Durbar, the PM quashed rumours of government aligning with former Free-Madhes activist CK Raut's demand on holding a referendum.

A referendum can be held on political issues but not on matters pertaining to sovereignty and integrity of the country but the constitution, PM Oli stated.

Several questions had surfaced in the aftermath of the development on Friday which saw CK Raut accept democratic means as the way to resolve existing issues while denouncing his secessionist drive. Leaders from the opposition and those from the ruling party itself had demanded clarity on some of the points in the 11-pointer.

On Sunday, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa too had clarified on behalf of the government that the government will not hold a referendum on the issue.
