KATHMANDU, MARCH 20
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung stated that expecting a king in a federal democratic republic was irrelevant.
Speaking at a program organized by the Nepal Chepang Association in the federal capital on Thursday, Minister Gurung asserted that calls for the restoration of the monarchy within the existing political system were meaningless.
Gurung, who also serves as the government's spokesperson, emphasized that a federal republican system is the most effective form of governance for fostering social development and national unity. He urged citizens to fully utilize the opportunities provided by federalism, describing it as a significant achievement for indigenous nationalities and marginalized communities.
He also encouraged marginalized communities to remain vigilant in securing the benefits of the current governance system, noting that it was established through a prolonged political struggle.
"The federal democratic republic is a great achievement for indigenous nationalities. However, we have yet to fully capitalize on the rights enshrined in this system," he remarked.
Gurung further stressed that national unity is built on an inclusive and equitable society and called on the state to actively implement policies promoting inclusion.
Member of the National Planning Commission Gita Poudel, Vice Chairman of the National Foundation for the Development of Indigenous Nationalities Ramesh Gurung, and Association Chairperson Govindaram Chepang, among others, shared their perspectives on the rights of indigenous nationalities and other pressing issues.
