Kathmandu, September 24
Norvic International Hospital, Thapathali today organised various programmes to mark the week-long celebrations of World Heart Day, 2016.
The World Heart Day (September 29) is celebrated worldwide on call of World Heart Federation to help people better understand and create awareness on cardiovascular diseases including hypertension.
Heart diseases are increasing globally because of high consumption of tobacco, alcohol, high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, obesity/overweight, physical inactivity, sedentary lifestyle, stress, diabetes, unhealthy diets and various other reasons.
Cardiovascular diseases claims over 17.3 million lives worldwide annually and about 7 to 8 per cent of urban Nepali population suffers from this deadly disease, said a press release issued by the hospital.
The theme of the world heart day this year is ‘Power your life’. Norvic’s week long World Heart Day programme started with heavily subsidised ‘Special Heart Packages’.
Around 100 patients operated at the hospital last year took part in Norvic’s main celebration programme of this year’s World Heart Day.
