Kathmandu, January 4:
The Bachelor’s level examinees of the ‘old course’ who were appearing for the examination as the ‘last chance’ today had to return home without taking the examination as the questions were out of syllabus. The Office of Controller of Examination (OCE) had given a last chance to Tribhuvan University (TU) examinees who could not pass the examination during the given time frame. Purna Kumar Shrestha, examinee of the 1987 batch, said that even though the OCE had provided golden opportunity, the examinees were not asked questions as per their syllabus. “When the OCE had announced to give us the last chance, it should should have fulfilled its duty,” said Shrestha.
Today the OCE provided questions for two-year Economics bachelor’s level examination based on the new course. Shrestha informed that this was not the first time that the OCE had done this. The examination of Major English Bachelor’s level held on December 30, had a similar case as the students were provided with new set of questions after 20 minutes. “Even after a protest they did not change the questions,” said C N Poudel, another examinee. Ten examinees today submitted their applications to Rajaram Amatya of Saraswati Multiple Campus to look into the matter. They have been asked to contact him after a week. On the other hand, Basudev Ghimire, controller at the OCE said that it would look into the matter. He said that if the charges were true, then the case would be handed over to the examination board committee.
According to the OCE, around 6,000 examinees could not clear their Master’s level examination till 2004. This applies to students under the yearly exam system in place since 1985. The OCE Board, Balkhu, had provided the chances of five years for the one-year course students, six years for two-year course students, seven years for three-year course students and eight years for four-year course students. The students who could not pass even during that period had to enroll for the new session. The examination is not only confined to theoretical examination but also to practical, thesis and field work.
The academic council of Tribhuvan University had decided to provide last chance as the students would face difficulty while giving examination for the new course. The students had submitted their applications by the second week of February last year to appear for the examination.
