KATHMANDU, JULY 25
Nepal Police arrested a 34-year-old man in Kathmandu on Sunday, on charges related to human trafficking.
The arrestee has been identified as Kamal Tamang, permanent resident of Kaski Pokhara Metropolitan City -27 and currently residing in Guheshwori, Panchakanya Marg, Kathmandu Metropolitan City.
Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police at Babarmahal arrested Tamang after receiving a report against him. Tamang allegedly enticed people with the promise of a prosperous future and a better lifestyle in the USA through illegal routes. However, he left them stranded in foreign countries, subjected to captivity, and extorted additional sums of money.
Investigations revealed that Tamang collected a total of Rs 22,623,890 from victims, with individual amounts ranging from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 60 lakh, under the pretext of arranging their travel to the USA via flights. The victims were subsequently taken to various countries, including India, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, and Zambia, before being left stranded and coerced for more money.
Tamang is being held in judicial custody after presenting before the Kathmandu District Court for further investigation.
