KATHMANDU, JULY 19
The Sinamangal area in Kathmandu today morning remained tense for hours after a bomb-like material was found outside a private shop.
Locals had informed the police about the object that was placed outside Khotang Halesi Jewellers near Sinamangal bridge at around 9:00am.
Soon, a bomb disposal unit of the Nepali Army reached the site to defuse the bomb.
The army suspected that it could be an IED, and thus took all necessary measures to dispose it. However, it was later found that it was just a hoax. Krishna Prasad Bhandari, spokesperson of the Nepali Army, said the device was an old Nokia mobile phone which was wrapped with wires and black tape to give it the impression of a bomb.
Meanwhile, Nepal Police personnel who were trying to find a link with the incident followed a CCTV footage that covered the area. They found that two middle-aged persons came to the site and placed the object there at around 6:30am this morning.
Upon identifying the people behind the act from CCTV, police started to trace and identify them.
Interestingly, they found that the man was witnessing the bomb defusion squad of the NA at work along with hundreds of people there.
Pictures on social media and news channels of the location showed that the same person was witnessing at the site standing behind Armed Police Force personnel. Police then immediately apprehended the person named Khajanchi Paswan of Rautahat from the site.
Police said the owner of the jewellery shop Kishore Yadav informed that some person had demanded ransom money of 500,000 rupees from a mobile phone a few days ago. Police also found a pamphlet at the site with the name of Nepal Utthan Revolutionary Party.
