One arrested on charge of smearing soot on Kansakar’s face
Kathmandu, January 6
Metropolitan Police Crime Division today arrested a person on the charge of smearing soot on the face of Sugat Ratna Kansakar, managing director of Nepal Airlines Corporation.
The arrestee is Suresh Tamang, a cadre of the Mohan Baidhya-led Nepal Communist Party (Revolutionary). Tamang is also
a secretariat member of the party’s sister wing Revolutionary Youth League.
Tamang had smeared soot on Kansakar’s face two days ago in his own office. Senior Superintendent of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh at Metropolitan Police Crime Division said they were also looking for other suspect involved in the incident.
The sub-committee formed under the Public Accounts Committee of the Federal Parliament to look into the anomalies in the wide-body aircraft purchase deal of Nepal Airlines Corporation has recommended action against Tourism Minister Rabindra Adhikari and suspension of government officials and Kansakar.
However, Kansakar, talking to The Himalayan Times, has claimed that the cadre of the Mohan Baidhya-led party smeared soot on his face for not provide Rs 500,000 donation as demanded by the party earlier.
Tamang was arrested from Thankot- 4 in Chandragiri Municipality.
