One held for smuggling in firecrackers to Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: A woman was detained in possession of a cache of firecrackers from a passenger bus coming to Kathmandu from Mahottari at Nagdhunga checkpoint on Saturday, police said.

Police seized 15,400 packets of firecrackers that the 45-year-old Indian woman, who hails from Motihari and currently resides in Swoyambhu of Kathmandu.

She was apparently smuggling in to the Capital from the Nepal-India border on the eve of Tihar festival.

Police said they found additional 750 packets of firecrackers that were unattended during regular checking at Nagdhunga checkpoint.
