OPMCM fiat to repair Valley roads pronto

KATHMANDU, July 22

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has directed the stakeholders to speed up the construction of the Sinamangal-Bhimsengola-Maitidevi-Dilli Bazaar-Putali Sadak road section.

At a meeting held in Singha Durbar on Wednesday, OPMCM Secretary Shanta Raj Subedi directed Director General of the Department of Roads, chief and officer bearers of the Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project and responsible officials of Melamchi Drinking Water Supply Project to repair the road section at the earliest.

The road section which was dug up as part of road widening drive and pipeline installation for the Melamchi Drinking Water Supply Project has not been repaired for months, giving hard time to commuters and pedestrians. With the onset of monsoon, situation has gone from bad to worse.

“Dillydallying (on the part of all concerned) in the road construction despite repeated instructions by the OPMCM has troubled the citizens during the monsoon,” said Subedi, adding that negligence on the part contractors has left road construction project in limbo. He said that the contractors should be black-listed by imposing hefty charge and terminating the tender agreements for failing to complete the road construction project.
