Need for stronger united-front stressed
KATHMANDU, JUNE 14
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-Maoist Center Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal are held a meeting at Madhav Nepal's Koteshwar based residence on Monday evening.
At the joint discussion, the three former Prime Minsisters decided to further strengthen the opposition alliance which was formed to challenge Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's recent political 'experiments' that have twice led to the dissolution of House of Representatives.
The senior political figures reiterated the need to remain united for the wider of the nation, democratic-republican system and the Constitution. It has also been learnt that Deuba, Dahal and Nepal had discussed the possibility of activities from various forces that could weaken the unity of the alliance and create distrust among each other.
Similarly, the opposition leaders through the meeting warned the government not to make any attempt to influence proceedings of the Supreme Court on matters that are currently under the court's consideration or are in the hearing process. The leaders warned against any activities that could create distrust over the judiciary.
They also discussed the importance of impartial roles that are needed to be played by various state and constitutional bodies to ensure a just and fair running of the overall democratic system.
The leaders of the coalition, which also includes two other political groups, had unanimously forwarded Sher Bahadur Deuba's name for Prime Ministership to the President Bidya Devi Bhandari on May 21 corresponding to her call for a majority coalition to stake claim to government.
