Ousted NRB guv moves SC

KATHMANDU: Ousted governor of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dipendra Bahadur Kshetry, on Monday moved the Supreme Court seeking his reinstatement.Kshetry lodged a writ petition seeking an apex court order to reinstate him in the top central bank post. He left office

yesterday after the redeemed governor, Bijaya Nath Bhattarai, had resumed duty.

The government had asked Kshetry to vacate

the post so that Bijaya Nath Bhattarai, who was expelled two years ago after being charged with corruption, could assume charge.

Kshetry termed the Friday’s cabinet decision to relieve him of his duty autocratic, biased and unlawful. Stating that his term would expire only in January, he pleaded that the decision be annulled.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Finance Minister and Ministry of Finance, Finance Secretary Rameshwor Khanal, Nepal Rastra Bank and reinstated governor Bijaya Nath Bhattarai have been made defendants in the petition.

After registering the case, assistant spokesperson for the Supreme Court Hemanta Rawal said the case would be placed for initial hearing soon.

The apex court had given a clean chit to Bhattarai, scrapping a corruption case lodged by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority two years back.
