Panel formed to investigate man’s death

Kathmandu, October 16:

Manoj Das, 42, from India, who was caught by the Jana Sewa Ward Police office on a looting charge, died while being brought to the hospital this morning.

Manoj and Arun Das were arrested yesterday on charge of looting cash worth around Rs 25,000 from Binita Neupaney on September 20 when she was coming out of the New Road branch of the Bank of Kathmandu after withdrawing money.

“Police interrogated Manoj and Das till 12 mid night and they admitted to their crime,” Dhak Bahadur Karki, SP at the Kathmandu District Police Office, said.

The police said Manoj and Arun slept at around 1 am. In the morning, Manoj was found seriously ill. Police took him to the Bir Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. “The cause of death can be confirmed only after a post-mortem report,” Karki said. Arun told the police that Manoj was suffering from gastro-enteritis and heart disease.

Sunil Das and Sagar Das are arrested on a tip-off from Manoj and Arun Das. Arun said Sunil and Sagar were also involved in the looting.

Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, today formed a four-member probe team to investigate the case. The committee headed by Superintendent of Police at the Valley Crime Investigation Branch Keshav Adhikari includes DSP Dharad Oli, DSP Madhab Basnet and inspector Jagat Nath Khanal. The committee is expected to submit its report by tomorrow evening.
