Panel to recommend Kathmandu traffic management initiatives

KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division on Wednesday formed a committee to recommend actions needed to improve Kathmandu traffic management.

The team under the leadership of SP Poshraj Pokharel comprises representatives from various stakeholders.

The committee is mandated to study current situation of the traffic management and offer recommendations based on that within next 15 days.

The decision was made amid an interaction among stakeholders organised by the MTPD today.

Meanwhile, the interaction also decided to coordinate among the MTPD, local traffic police units and stakeholders to ease flow of traffic along Kathmandu roads.

The MTPD during the interaction informed that traffic lights at 12 junctions of Kathmandu immediately need repairing while dozens of crossroads and junctions need new traffic lights.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Office Chief AIG Pratap Singh Thapa, Department of Roads Director General Madhav Karki, Chief District Officers of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts, among others had offered their suggestions to the MTPD for better traffic management in the Valley.
