Parliamentary hearing on stalled nominations begins

KATHMANDU: The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Thursday decided to begin parliamentary hearing on stalled nominations for Supreme Court justices and ambassadors for various nations.

The PHSC held a meeting today and decided to call for complaints against the proposed Chief Justice Sushila Karki, other 11 SC justice nominees and those recommended for the ambassadors to 22 nations, according to the PHSC Chairman Kul Bahadur Gurung.

Nomination of the Chief Election Officer is also awaiting the approval from the legislative body for many months.

The parliamentary hearing procedures were stalled for over six months owing to absence of the Parliamentary Regulations.

The Parliament had finalised and endorsed the Regulations and formed the 15-member PHSC on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the meeting today also endorsed the working procedures prepared by its three-member task force, according to Gurung.
