Party president has failed as an opposition leader, says Paudel

CHITWAN: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel has said that the party president, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has failed to play an effective role as the main opposition leader in the parliament.

Speaking at a press meet organised by the Nepal Press Union, Chitwan here today, the party senior leader said that NC President was expected to come across as ideologically strong, but unfortunately, that was not the case.

He claimed that he was worried about restoring the party's strengths and not about who would occupy the post. He further informed that he was invited for to a lunch hosted by central member Sujata Koirala at her residence on Monday.

According to Paudel, the meeting was just a casual one and the attendees did not indulge in any sort of 'groupism'. He went on to say that there were no major issues in nominating Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar as the vice-president of the party. However, the president failed to do so through a due, transparent process. "It was agreed upon that Gachchhadar would be inducted as the vice-president, but this should have happened after following a due process."

Commenting on the government’s performance, leader Paudel said the government has reached a ‘non-performing stage’ despite now being a favarouble time and opportunity for a two-thirds majority government. "The opposition is staying gently put, doing nothing of significance and hence, the people are disappointed."
