KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 8

Pashupatinath temple, which has been closed for devotees since late April this year will open for devotees from Friday.

Executive Director of the Pashupati Area Development Trust Dr Ghanshyam Khatiwada told RSS that the temple will reopen from 5:30am on Friday in view of the declining threat of coronavirus. The PADT is preparing to hold a chyama puja on Thursday as the temple had remained closed to devotees for fourand-a-half months.

However, the temple will remain open only till 1:00pm as the risk of coronavirus infection has not completely been neutralised. Devotees who want to visit Pashupatinath temple must wear a mask and follow the health protocols prescribed by the concerned authorities. Only 25 devotees will be allowed to enter the temple at a time. The PADT has made arrangements for devotees to enter the temple through one door and exit through another. According to Executive Director Khatiwada, a meeting of the security committee was held today to decide on opening the temple from Friday.

Pashupatinath temple was closed for devotees for nine months following the first wave of the COVID pandemic.
