KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 25

The Department of Passports has announced that the full services of the passport application system are expected to resume within the next 1-2 weeks. This follows technical issues that led to the temporary suspension of services across district and area administration offices, as well as Nepali embassies abroad.

According to a recent press release, the technical issues were traced back to unauthorized access to certain computer hardware related to the passport application system. In light of these findings, the department has taken necessary precautions to prevent further escalation and ensure the security of data and confidentiality.

Partial services have already resumed, allowing the processing of previously submitted applications. Additionally, bookings for new applications are set to open within the next 1-2 days. The department is committed to maintaining the security of all records during this transition period, it further stated.

"For urgent cases, the department has begun providing services gradually. Service seekers are encouraged to remain patient and informed as the situation develops. For more information regarding applications submitted at district and area administration offices or Nepali embassies abroad, the department has urged individuals to contact the respective offices directly."

Alternatively, assistance can be sought through the department's hotline at +977-1-5470330/331/332, the department added.
