At least six people sustained injuries in a helicopter crash involving an Air Dynasty aircraft at Balabensi in Kepilasgadhi Rural Municipality–2, Khartamchha, earlier today.
The helicopter, carrying five passengers from Kathmandu, struck a wall while attempting to land at Balabensi at around 12:02 pm. According to DSP Prakash Budhathoki of the Khotang Police, a total of six individuals, including the pilot, were on board the Air Dynasty helicopter (9N-AFQ).
Kaji Bahadur Rai, 65, a resident of Lalitpur, sustained injuries to his right leg and eye. He, along with pilot Sabin Thapa, was airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment at 12:35 pm by another Air Dynasty helicopter.
The helicopter had been transporting the body of Manalakshmi Rai, 77, a resident of Balabensi, who had passed away a month ago in the UK. According to reports, her relatives were bringing her body back for cremation.
Also on board were the deceased's husband, Dakmani Rai, 83; son, Balkumar Rai, 53; daughter, Laxmi Rai, 47; and Samala Rai, 40, in addition to the injured Kaji Bahadur Rai.
Ward Chair Rai stated that the relatives on board the helicopter are safe.
Balkumar Rai, who was among the passengers, said no further damage occurred as the pilot immediately shut down the engine after the crash.
"It feels like a frightening dream when I think about the incident. It seemed as though our fate had already slipped away. I was seated in the front," he said, adding, "Even in such an accident, we survived. The pilot immediately turned off the engine, preventing further damage."
