Patan Durbar Square to be lit up at night time
Lalitpur, August 12
If all goes well, the Patan Durbar Square will be lit up every night after two months to allow visitors to see the glowing spectacle of medieval architecture.
Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry is planning to install lights around the square at the cost of Rs 10 million.
“The project has been launched with the objective of protecting the heritage site,” said Sabin Shrestha, president of Lalitpur CCI. “During renovation, monuments and inscriptions will have to be removed from their original places and this would risk theft,” he said, adding that lighting up the square would not only improve security but also attract tourists during the night.
The project will be co-financed by Jyapu Samaj, Tamrakar Samaj and District Development Committee of Lalitpur, among others.
