Patan heritage in a shambles

LALITPUR: Even as the fiscal nears its end, renovation of cultural and historical monuments in Lalitpur Sub-metropolitan City is in a shambles. The delay in project selection has stalled the renovation work.

According to the LSMC, Rs 4 million has been allocated for renovation of temples and rest houses, Rs 2.5 million for monasteries and retreat centres, Rs 2.2 million for the culture and archaeology conservation, Rs 1.5 million for stone spouts, Rs 1 million for Patan Durbar Square, and Rs 2 million for the conservation of old houses belonging to common people.

The LSMC has allocated a total of Rs 12 million for the conservation of historical monuments. An engineer at the Heritage Conservation Division, LSMC, Chandra Shobha Shakya said, "There are about 2,000 heritage sites in the LSMC."

Binod Prakash Singh, chief executive officer, LSMC, said an all-party meeting would be held tomorrow to select the projects and the renovation work would begin next week.
