Patan-ites to tap water from stone spouts
Kathmandu, August 10:
Residents of Patan are all set to collect water from four traditional stone spouts and pool it into a reservoir for distribution to the neighbourhood.
Of the 57 stone spouts in Lalitpur, four spouts located in Sundhara, Mangal Bazaar, Chhyashal and Kumbeshwore have been selected for collection of water because of their consistent flow of water throughout the year, said Sushil Shrestha, coordinator of the Stone Spouts Conservation Committee (SSCC), Lalitpur. Shrestha said locals have plans to collect the water that goes waste during nights and distribute it to households near the stone spouts.
The cost for the programme will be met by local contribution as well as technical and financial support from Lalitpur sub-Metropolitan City and organisations working in this sector, said Shrestha.
Manoj Chipalu, vice president of SSCC, said, “A survey has been conducted in Sundhara Hiti for collection and distribution of water to 200 households at minimal tariff.”
