Pathak nominated first amicus curiae in Nepal

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 5

The Supreme Court Bar Association has recommended the name of senior advocate Geeta Pathak as member of the amicus curiae with the objective of making the bench inclusive in relation to the hearing on the case of dissolution of House of Representatives.

A working committee meeting of the Supreme Court Bar held yesterday recommended Pathak for the same, said the Bar’s Vicechair Raju Khadka. The Supreme Court Bar had on Friday recommended the names of incumbent president of Bar, senior advocate Khagendra Prasad Adhikari, and recently elected president senior advocate, Purna Man Shakya, for the same.

Pathak has been recommended for the same after Bar President Adhikari stayed in isolation as he was infected with coronavirus.

The Supreme Court had issued an order to appoint two senior advocates from the Supreme Court Bar as amicus curiae in the HoR dissolution case.

However, Nepal Bar Association on Thursday recommended names of senior advocates Badri Bahadur Karki, Satish Krishna Kharel and Bijay Kant Mainali for amicus curiae.

Written responses of the President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and Speaker of HoR have already been registered as per the order of the Supreme Court. The SC is conducting a hearing on the case from January 11.
