KATHMANDU, AUGUST 28

The Patan High Court today upheld the Kathmandu Metropolitan City's decision of barring commercial establishments to collect parking fees from the service-seekers.

In a significant turn of events, a joint bench of acting justice Mahesh Sharma Poudel and Ramesh Dhakal of the Court issued an interim order against its earlier stay order which had allowed the private businesses to collect parking fees.

Today's decision, however, has allowed free parking only for the customers as other people should pay the parking fee in such complexes until service-seekers have business with them.

The decision came after commercial complexes lodged the writ petition seeking stay order against the July 17 directive from the city government. The directive issued by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City stipulated that establishments like shopping malls, private marts, restaurants, service providing offices and hospitals must provide parking services to their customers. In a countermeasure, complex developers had filed a writ petition against the metropolis.
