Cleanliness, greenery promotion drive launched
Kathmandu, February 12
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today launched ‘Cleanliness, Greenery Promotion and Garden Management Campaign, 2016’ by planting a red sandalwood sapling on the premises of Singha Durbar.
Binod Bahadur Kunwar, joint secretary at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, said the campaign was launched with the objective of developing a culture of cleanliness and greenery promotion on the premises of the administrative headquarters and all government offices throughout the country.
On the occasion, Minister for Population and Environment Vishwendra Paswan, Minister for Information and Technology Sherdhan Rai, Chief Secretary Somlal Subedi and secretaries planted the saplings of various trees, including malagri, sugandha kokila (Cinnamomum cecicodephne), loth salla (taxus baccata), tejpat (Cnnamomum tamala), rudraksha, srikhand, cherry, dhupi, chap, bodhi chitta, avacado and china rose trees.
As many as 52 trees were planted. Prime Minister Oli urged all government offices to follow the example of Singha Durbar and contribute to environmental protection through cleanliness and greenery promotion in their respective places.
“Best practices of the government offices will inspire to promote cleanliness and greenery,” he said.
